Harlem Flo (floral atelier)

harlem-flo

By HarlemHouse

A great little addition to the up and coming new businesses on Frederick Douglass Blvd.

This friendly and helpful flower shop carries a nice selection of house plants and a large variety of cut flowers.  They deliver various plants and cut flowers to the surrounding area and regularly have a hearty selection of seasonal plants.  They also provide services for weddings and other events.  Owners Louis Gagliano and Stefan Handl opened this shop 18 months ago and HarlemCondoLife encourages everyone to drop by and check it out.

Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday 11-7 PM and Sunday 12-5 PM.

Exxon Out, BP in at Central Park North/FDB Gas Station

img_0150What has typically been an Exxon gas station for many years, has apparently changed ownership to BP.  This was very evident recently with a worker changing the sign during a sunny day in Harlem at 111th and Frederick Douglass.

Finefare Grocery In Harlem

img_2986Last Saturday HarlemGuy of HarlemCondoLife.com ventured to Finefare Supermarket.  Think of it as Harlem’s version of a Whole Foods.  Located on 116th and Lenox Ave.  It is deceptively cavernous.  Always packed.  Great prices.  Great selection.  Convenient location.  Go there and you can one stop shop within a 1 block radius.  Pharmacy.  Banking.  Fish.  Gifts.  Pet supplies.  Best of all it is right on the “red” line which affords rapid ascent uptown or descent downtown.

Have you been to Finefare?  We’d love to hear your comments on the experience.

Good Senegalese Food in Harlem

Africa Kine Restaurant

By Icare4Harlem

This unassuming eatery, located at 256 W. 116th St. between 7th and 8th Avenues, might prompt one to wonder, “Is there really a restaurant in there?” Once you’ve crossed the threshold and wind up the staircase you enter Africa Kine Restaurant, a room filled with warmth, small gatherings, and a menu of traditional Senegalese entrees. If you’re not familiar with the Thiebu Djeun, Lamb Mafe, Debe, or any other item, don’t fret, it’s a great opportunity to venture into a new cuisine. I was in the mood for fish and was thrilled to have a choice of fried, grilled or baked Poisson.  The portions were plentiful and reasonably priced. Sorrel and ginger juices complemented the beverage list. As with any traditionally prepared food, make sure you allow ample time to enjoy your meal.  Harlemcondolife recommends Africa Kine!

67 Orange Street on Frederick Douglass

HarlemCondoLife

By HarlemGal

Harlemcondolife.com reported about a week ago about a new place on FDB, between 112th and 113th.  It seems like there is some chitter-chatter on the street and in the blog-o-sphere that this place is owned by Society Cafe and its called 79 Orchard?  Hmmm. If that is the case, a big congrats to Society Cafe in Harlem for expanding its business presence.  But we have one question, why is it called 79 Orchard? Someone tell us…..

We found out our answer.  This new place on Frederick Douglass is actualy called 67 Orange Street and it is owned by the same owner from Society Cafe.  Harlemcondolife checked it out and it is very nice.  The drink menu is attractive as well as the people hanging out in there! Go by and see for yourself!
