Harlem's Frederick Douglass Blvd gaining another restaurant

HarlemCondoLife

By HarlemGal
American cuisine will be offered in the space pictured above and the chef creating and serving up those meals will bring experience from Eleven Madison and Chanterelle, according to the co-owner of this new restaurant space. This new restaurant will be located on Frederick Douglass Blvd between 112th and 113th Street. The opening date and name of the place are not ready to be disclosed yet, however  the co-owner stressed “hopefully soon, very soon!” Of course, HarlemCondoLife will keep you posted on the details!

With this restaurant coming soon, along with the anticipated opening of the Italian restaurant on the corner of FDB and 117th Street and recent openings, such as Questan’s, these actions continue to support our predication: FDB, also known as 8th Avenue, is on its way to become Harlem’s restaurant row.

Harlem is backdrop for FX's Rescue Me

By Austin2Harlem
We went and checked out the filming of Rescue Me this morning since we saw the notices along 116th Street over the weekend. The crew were filming right at the intersection of 116th Street & St. Nicholas & Adam Clayton Powell.
Here are a few pictures from the site. We believe we have Denis Leary in one of the photos below! If that’s not him, it certainly looked like him!

Doctors, Deli's and 111 Central Park North

By HarlemGal
I walked to the 2/3 subway stop today at 110th Street and Central Park North and noticed half of the retail space is gone at 111 Central Park North. HarlemCondoLife told you about Doctor Diego moving in to that space, and there had been a lot of chatter online about a McDonalds going there and Subway. Well, we know a Subway franchise got it’s way and a deli. I guess the tenents/owners in 111CPN were able to say “no way Jose” to the golden arches. If that is in fact true, as a homeowner in Harlem I am very happy!

Congratulations to President Obama for being awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize

By HarlemGuy

HarlemCondoLife congratulates recent Harlem visitor  President Barack Obama for being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009.

In doing so we signal our agreement with the following well-mannered sentiments captured in a  recent New York Times article:

“I know there’s going to be some people who are saying ‘Was it based on good intentions and thoughts, or is it going to be based on results?’ ” Mr. Pawlenty said on his weekly radio show on WCCO in Minneapolis. But I think the appropriate response, or an appropriate response, is when anybody wins a Nobel Prize, you know that is a very noteworthy development and designation and award, and I think the proper response is to say congratulations.”   – Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, a Republican who is considering challenging Mr. Obama in 2012.

We also thought it would be fitting to share the reason for the award directly from the organization.

The Nobel Peace Prize for 2009

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama’s vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.

Obama has as President created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play. Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts. The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations.

Thanks to Obama’s initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened.

Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world’s population.

For 108 years, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has sought to stimulate precisely that international policy and those attitudes for which Obama is now the world’s leading spokesman. The Committee endorses Obama’s appeal that “Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges.”

Congratulations to President Obama for being awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.

Best Yet coming to Harlem's SoHa

By HarlemGal
It’s a rumor no more! Best Yet is coming to Harlem and it will be in the SoHa building on Frederick Douglass Blvd between 118th and 119th Street.

And thanks to a reader for giving us the heads up. Much appreciated. Now the big question I have is…when will they open for business? Hopefully it won’t take as long as it did to sign the lease!

If you don’t have any plans the weekend of October 10, we have a recommendation for you.  Take a ride uptown on the A, C, B, D or 2/3 and check out the Harlem Open Artist Studio Tour, also known as HOAST.  HOAST is having their fifth annual walking tour of Harlem artist studios, galleries and exhibition spaces October 10th and 11th from noon to 6 p.m. Based on the HOAST map, there is plenty see and do in Harlem. So vamanos!
