\nAnother \u00a0Mom and Pops shop in Harlem that has been one of my favorites for years is Island Spice and Southern Cuisine<\/strong>. \u00a0I like supporting our local businesses that have been around and doing well for a long time. \u00a0Island Spice is no exception. \u00a0No thrills here – just modest decor, small quarters and good inexpensive food.<\/p>\n

Any given afternoon if you stop by to eat for lunch you will see locals lined up ordering food to go. \u00a0Certain items are cooked to order and other dishes are buffet style that you select to your liking with sides. \u00a0The entree comes with rice and peas (or just rice) and two side dishes. \u00a0A common lunch is the stewed chicken entree with rice and peas with sides of plantains and collard greens. \u00a0This very filling and tasty entree comes out to a mere $6\u00a0for\u00a0the small order. \u00a0Medium entree with two sides is $8.50. \u00a0Some of the dishes and entrees that I\u00a0recommend\u00a0are the Fish and Chips, Jerk Chicken, Mac & Cheese, Ox Tail, Curry Shrimp, Pepper Steak or just a couple authentic\u00a0Jamaican\u00a0Beef Patties with a bottle of Ting.<\/p>\n

I love spots like this. It is one of the type businesses that makes Harlem great.<\/p>\n

Here you can enjoy great\u00a0authentic\u00a0Jamaican\u00a0and southern cuisine and feel good about supporting a small local business.<\/div>\n
