{"id":26920,"date":"2014-03-01T11:01:03","date_gmt":"2014-03-01T16:01:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/harlemcondolife.com\/?p=26920"},"modified":"2014-03-01T11:07:04","modified_gmt":"2014-03-01T16:07:04","slug":"sign-petition-bring-citibikes-harlem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/harlemcondolife.com\/?p=26920","title":{"rendered":"Sign petition to bring Citibikes to Harlem"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/harlemcondolife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Screen-Shot-2014-03-01-at-9.03.33-AM.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-26922\" alt=\"citibike harlem\" src=\"http:\/\/harlemcondolife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Screen-Shot-2014-03-01-at-9.03.33-AM.jpg\" width=\"458\" height=\"434\" srcset=\"http:\/\/harlemcondolife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Screen-Shot-2014-03-01-at-9.03.33-AM.jpg 573w, http:\/\/harlemcondolife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Screen-Shot-2014-03-01-at-9.03.33-AM-300x283.jpg 300w, http:\/\/harlemcondolife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Screen-Shot-2014-03-01-at-9.03.33-AM-100x94.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 458px) 100vw, 458px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Harlem residents have launched a petition on Change.org to bring Citibikes to Harlem. \u00a0Harlem was not included in the initial rollout. \u00a0Nor is Harlem included in current expansion plans.<\/p>\n<p>This exclusion does not make sense. \u00a0See below for salient points from the petition.<\/p>\n<p>HarlemCondoLife supports the petition by Harlem residents to bring Citibikes to Harlem. \u00a0 \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.change.org\/petitions\/polly-trottenberg-dept-of-transportation-expand-the-citibike-program-to-harlem\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.7;\">Click here<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 1.7;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.change.org\/petitions\/polly-trottenberg-dept-of-transportation-expand-the-citibike-program-to-harlem\" target=\"_blank\"> to view, sign and share the petition<\/a>.<\/strong> \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 1.7;\">While the City is cold and mired in snow, now is the time to ask for what Harlem deserves, so there&#8217;s a chance Harlem will have it to enjoy as soon as \u00a0possible, ideally by this Spring.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Citibike program has been largely hailed as a huge success, and plans are in place for its expansion.<\/li>\n<li>New York Magazine reported though, that the new stations &#8220;are planned for the Upper West Side, Upper East Side, Park Slope, and Cobble Hill&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>The article points out that the planned expansion &#8220;does nothing to fight the perception \u2014 and stats \u2014 that contend the program is catering only to well-off white people.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>The expansion of the Citibike program into less affluent areas will mean greater access to the city annual costs of a metrocard start at over $1,300, which would mean greater access to opportunities.<\/li>\n<li>Harlemites pay the same taxes on sales, income, and property, but we are always the last to benefit when the city prospers, and while Harlem is enjoying something of a renaissance, the City, in this case the NYC Department of Transportation, can help Harlem help itself by supporting the infrastructure of our Manhattan neighborhood.<\/li>\n<li>Harlem is home to many students, recent college graduates, and others just starting out in the city. A bike share program would boom amongst them. \u00a0This is especially true given the emergence of <a href=\"http:\/\/harlemcondolife.com\/?s=harlem+educational+hub\" target=\"_blank\">Harlem&#8217;s Educational Hub<\/a> in Manhattanville.<\/li>\n<li>The petition needs the support of\u00a0Polly Trottenberg, Dept. of Transportation, Commissioner for the New York City Department of Transportation;
