A few weeks back <\/span><\/span>HarlemGuy of HarlemCondoLife spotted a group of people wearing bright read t-shirts emblazoned with the word “volunteer\u201d on the back \"img_29481\"<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>preparing to enter Harlem Children’s Zone<\/a> at 689 Lenox Avenue in East Harlem.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Harlem Children\u2019s Zone is a<\/span>n innovative and unique community-based organization<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>, offering education, <\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>social-service and community-building programs to children and families since 1970.\u00a0\u00a0 Stated President Elect Barack Obama in July 2008<\/a> “<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>The first part of my plan to combat urban poverty will be to replicate the Harlem Children’s Zone in twenty cities across the country.”<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ever curious I asked one of the volunteers <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>what they were up to.\u00a0 <\/span>She told me that they represented Bank of America\u2019s Black Professionals Group.\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>The bank and this group routinely do community work in Harlem.\u00a0 <\/span>On this particular Saturday morning they were planning to paint murals.\u00a0 <\/span>I asked if I could stop by later to help document their work, and they agreed.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
