World music takes center stage this Thursday and Friday in Harlem. Amkoullel, the Malian hip hop artist will be performing for the first time in Harlem (and in the USA) this Thursday and Friday (April 7-8).
On April 7th, see Amkoullel perform at the Shrine, located at 2271 Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Blvd. The show starts at 8 PM. At Shrine, there is no cover charge. The next day (April 8), see the Afro-beat artist perform at Farafina Cafe, located at 1813 Amsterdam Avenue. This show starts at 11 PM on Friday.
Aside from his music, Amkoullel is known for “harmoniously combining traditional and contemporary global cultures to promote social responsibility.”
Looking for a place to hold a small gathering? Whether it’s a baby shower, business meeting, or just a quiet get together, you might want to consider the Sugar Hill Harlem Inn. Yes, this quaint Bed & Breakfast has two locations in Harlem. They are at West. 141st Street and West 147th & Convent Avenue.
I recently received an invitation to attend a birthday party at the West 147th location and wondered how do you mix a B & B with a milestone birthday?
The event occurred on the main floor, which accommodated a small band. Access to full kitchen facilities was located on the lower level. The completely renovated kitchen provided the necessary amenities to produce an extensive dinner that was enjoyed by approximately 30 guests. The upstairs level housed the uniquely decorated bedrooms. This area is rich in history and close to many cultural venues. Easily reached by the Uptown A and D subway trains, out-of-town guests and local residents will enjoy this lovely setting.
