Bier International in Harlem

By HarlemMom –
I had brunch this past weekend at Bier International in Harlem.  The food was excellent as always.  I had the scrambled eggs with hummus, pita wedges and a green salad.  My husband had his favorite, the Portuguese Linguica and Scrambled Eggs Fajitas.  His was served with guacamole and baby organic greens as well.  This place never misses on food, however this time the service was lacking and we reflected it in our tip.  This has been one of our favorite places in Harlem since they opened, so this is why we were surprised by our server.  Unfortunately, the owners Ousmane Keita and Chris Pollok were not there this day.  One or both of them are usually there and two of the nicest guys in Harlem.

This being said, our waitress gave us menus but took a while to come by to take our order and it was not because she was busy.  We placed our order which included a juice for my husband.  My coffee came but we had to call her over and remind her about the juice which had been at the service area for some time.  We saw a table of 5 near us that had menus but they got up and left due to her lack of service.  Besides great food Bier International is in my opinion the best kid friendly place on the boulevard.  This might have to do with the fact that both Chris and Ousmane have kids of their own.  The food is consistently good and normally so is the service.  This is why I wanted to share my experience.

We look forward to many more great meals there with our infant daughter.

(Every Friday night, from 8 p.m. until.., DJ Ouaga spinning world beats.  See Bier International’s  website below for “December Events” and Menu.)

Like in München Bier International will be celebrating their third OctoBIERfest weekend with live music, pig roast, lederhosen and obviously tons of bier.

It’s always a party at Bier but this weekend has started off and will continue to be extra fun.

Swing by and have a bier, or two, or…..

Happy Oktoberfest to all of our friends at Bier International from Harlem Condo Life.

The New York Times recently wrote about a city-wide beer garden craze (there are apparently 54 beer gardens in the city, according to Beer Gardens NYC, a nine-month-old iPhone application dedicated to tracking them).

Among those mentioned:  Hallo Berlin, Radegast Hall, Studio SquareMission DoloresLa BirreriaBohemian Hall and Beer GardenZum SchneiderLoreley Killmeyer’sBerry ParkDogfish Head, ,Bierhaus NYC and Local West.

Notably absent was any mention of our favorite Bier International.   So we wanted to take this opportunity to share some of our posts on this incredible destination.

Bier International

By HarlemHouse                                                                                                                            One of HarlemCondoLife’s favorite spots from day one of the opening is continuing to get more and more popular.  As HarlemGal & HarlemHouse have informed you this is the spot to be!  Now that summer is here, Bier International has their sidewalk certificate to expand all the goodness to those who want to dine and drink outside as well as inside.

Bier International

Everytime I have guests over from wherever other than Harlem they always ask “whats that place?” pointing to Bier International.  Because It is always crowded and inviting you to check out what it is that you are missing out on.  I always say this is one of the newest most successful spots to open on “Restaurant Row” Frederick Douglass Blvd. here in Harlem.

Stop by  any night and have a beer or appetizer, or a great dinner and judge for yourself.

Hello summer and the ongoing progression of Harlem and all the new opportunities and facilities it is offering to all of us living here.

During my usual stroll along Frederick Douglass Boulevard, I was able to capture the latest construction happenings with Bier International, Harlem’s first (alleged) beer garden. The beer garden, expected to debut soon at 2099 Frederick Douglass Blvd., is starting to take shape.
In one of the photos below, you can see where the bar is going to be placed, which is what the rendering indicated. Also, there are workers on site every day now and what appears to be management standing outside late evenings. I have seen management hanging out in front lately reviewing the days construction.
So stay tuned, this place is expected to open while the 2010 World Cup is on!

In my mind, there is no question that Frederick Douglass Blvd is fast becoming a hot spot to hang whether for drinks or dining out or both. Heck, I have been saying all along and I will say it again that FDB is destined to be dubbed restaurant row especially now since this well known Harlem avenue called 8th Ave is getting a beer garden at 2099 Frederick Douglass Blvd.

On their website it states the beer garden will open early Spring. Hmm… Other reports say May. Below are pics taken of 2099 FDB today. Do you see any workers there? I think Bier International hired some ghosts to do construction work because I walk by this space practically every day and I have not seen any action-not a peep, not a sound coming from this space, which leads me to believe “we’re not getting any beer garden in May.” Maybe late June or July it will open, which will be nice to have. Don’t get me wrong. Drinking a brewski during those hot, humid summer days sounds delightful! I cannot wait! Harlemites will now have another option to throw back a few beers then head over to Slyvia’s for some good grub and then on to Harlem Lanes to bowl the night away!

Man-oh-man, I love Harlem and all that it offers! Have a great weekend!
