Harlem Flo – a flower boutique in Harlem

Harlem Flo

Harlem Flo flower shop (original) was one of the new businesses to open years ago on Frederick Douglass Boulevard’s restaurant row.  Now they are expanded in to a multi purpose boutique.  More and more FDB is becoming retail row as well as restaurant row.

With Harlem Flo combining both of their locations into one large expanded and renovated space, they are able to offer many different consumer needs.

The other day I stopped in for a blank card (my personal favorites are by local artist AFineLyne Lynn Lieberman), and walked out with a bag of gifts and a house plant.  They have great candles, books and art just to name a few.  If you are going to a dinner party, a housewarming  or have a special date, and need a gift they have a large selection of appropriate items including the traditional long stem roses.  As their window conveys, Garden ∙ Art ∙ Gifts.
See their website Harlem Flo Boutique.

For those of you who have outdoor space or just want summer flowers in your apartment window, one of the owners Louis Gagliano was telling me they will have flats of summer flowers in front of their shop from spring to fall.  They already have some early spring flowers available.  They have an expansive collection of cut flowers and healthy indoor orchids, cactus and a variety of house plants.

The combining of the two locations last summer was a smart move.  If you haven’t visited Harlem Flo yet stop in and pay them a visit.  Even if you do not need anything you will probably end up buying something.  Adjacent with Harlem Flo Boutique is the corner Coventry Garden.  This will look great in the summertime.

For St. Patrick’s Day I ordered flowers from Katrina Parris Flowers, located at 191 Lenox Avenue, for my favorite Irish mum in Queens and I was pleased as pie, as well as the recipient. Now I hear I could receive flowers for me and my friends from Katrina Parris in Harlem for FREE! Yes, that’s right….for free! Here is the chisme, chicas or chicos!

Harlem’s Katrina Parris Flowers has launched “Your Feelings, Our Flowers” program. What does that mean? It means free flowers for three months or two months or one month. All you have to do is join this program on Facebook.

According to Mark from Katrina Flowers, the idea is very simple. They want to say thank you to Harlem for supporting their business and hope to make this an annual event.

Franz James Floral Boutique to blossom in Harlem

Franz James Floral Boutique to blossom in Harlem

2114 Frederick Douglass Blvd. will be smelling like roses, orchids and tulips soon. This is one of the retail spaces in The Douglass Condominium that has apparently rented out its commercial space to Franz James Floral Boutique. Big signs are up on the windows saying “Coming Soon.” I went to the website listed and all its says is “website builder and flower as art.”

I have never heard of Franz James Floral Boutique. I generally by my flowers over in East Harlem on the corner of Lexington and 116th Street. Is anyone familiar with this shop? Is it a first store for Franz James? And does anyone know if this is a local business person? Chime in here or tell us on Twitter.

Either way,it’s another business opening up on the award-winning Frederick Douglass Blvd!

There is a rose in Spanish Harlem, an abundance on East 116th Street

Do you remember the song by Ben King called “There is a rose in Spanish Harlem?” It is an oldie, but goodie hit! We thought of this song recently when we passed by the flower stand on the northwest corner of East 116th Street and Lexington Avenue this past weekend.
There is a rose in Spanish Harlem, an abundance on East 116th StreetThis particular flower stand has an abundance of fresh roses, sunflowers, daisies and mixed flowers for sale-more so than other Bodega stands in Harlem. The flowers at this stand are all beautifully stacked and grouped accordingly where it makes the street-walker stop, look and buy. That’s what happened to us. We ended up buying two dozen colored roses for $10 and a bouquet of daisies for $5! What a deal! There is a rose in Spanish Harlem, an abundance on East 116th StreetThis stand has to be one of the least expensive places with gorgeous product in the area. We wanted to buy more flowers, such as the mustard colored sunflowers for $5 or mixed flowers for $8! However, we only had two sets of hands. We’re going back though. After our two dozen roses finish blooming!
As the song goes, there is a rose in Spanish Harlem beautiful and inexpensive, and it’s on 116th Street and Lexington Avenue.
