Harlem Food Bar
Monday through Sunday just pick a night for freshly prepared food (MENU- a word from the chef) and a popular bar scene. For those of us living here in Harlem we already know Harlem Food Bar has become quite the trendy spot. I have to say whether I go there on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or on a weekend night, I always meet new and interesting people. It draws a wide spectrum of Harlem’s crowd in a comfortable setting. Like the fact that last night a customer stopped in for dinner and beer on the way home to 149th street, and a couple having drinks at the bar were from Third Avenue in East Harlem. It is a very friendly environment for a quick bite or long evening of drinks and dinner. Don’t be surprised if you see a celebrity having a casual dinner or a film crew filming at this Harlem hot spot.
Harlem Food Bar
Spring, Summer and Fall you can always look forward to the outside dining which Harlem Food Bar and across the street neighbor Bier International have set up nicely.
NOTE: Customers can now call ahead for Pick-up Orders. Call 212-222-9570 to place your order. If you haven’t tried their turkey or veggie burger I highly recommend it. Best turkey burger in Harlem.

Londel Davis, longtime Harlemite & owner of Londel’s Supper Club at 2620 Frederick Douglass, has opened his new “L” Lounge about 25 blocks south of his well known restaurant. There is no sign on the door yet but friends who attended a pre-opening private event say the lounge is named for the long since dismantled 8th Avenue elevated train, pictures of which adorn
8th Avenue El, May 1939
this classy new addition to Harlem’s “Gold Coast”. Fans of Londel’s unique blend of “continental, Cajun, and traditional Southern cuisine” will still have to travel to the 139th Street establishment – his new place is a bar lounge, not a restaurant.

Café Amrita, located at 301 West 110th Street, can be almost anything you want it to be. In the morning, it’s a bright, airy spot for coffee, hot chocolate and a breakfast sandwich or toasted bagel. At lunch it’s a good place to grab a quick and delicious grilled Panini. The roast beef and swiss Panini is my favorite along with chips. Hang out a little later in the evening as the lights are turned down and it transforms into the perfect neighborhood watering hole.
If you show up before 8 p.m., you’ll be treated to happy hour specials including $4 draft beer and $5 wine. I generally order Samuel Adams on tap or Blue Moon. After happy hour ends, it’s just a buck more, so feel free to stick around and enjoy the game on the big screen TV or just chat with the friendly patrons and staff. You can choose from the numerous small tables or grab a stool at the long wooden bar.
No matter when you visit, you’ll find Café Amrita in Harlem to be a warm, relaxed, and a welcoming venue filled with tasty food and drinks at reasonable prices. Throw in the affable mix of Harlem locals, and it may just become your favorite place to spend an hour…or three. I know that for this recently transplanted Texan to Harlem, it’s a spot where you’ll often find me hanging my hat.
