A word to the wise. Harlem’s Restaurant Rows are easy to stroll. However be warned: Be hungry. Have a place in mind. Pick a backup. Get there early. Don’t always expect to be seated right away it may take a few minutes. Don’t rule out making a reservation which you can do via Opentable, etc. Basically, apply the same rules you would apply elsewhere in NYC. But whatever you do, do check out Brunch in Harlem!

I recently had lunch at Kichenette Uptown in Harlem with my husband and 9 week old daughter and loved it. Granted it was a week day so we did not have to wait but the food was as good as always and definitely worth the wait had there been a line.
I had the Tuna Melt with cheddar and tomato on a homemade English muffin which was delicious. My husband had the Turkey Rueben served on rye with coleslaw which was just as delicious. Their hot sandwiches are served with a choice of garlic fries, coleslaw, a field green salad or mashed butternut squash.
We love Kitchenette because besides having delicious breakfast, lunch, dinner, desserts and milkshakes they are very kid friendly. They have Kids’ Birthday Parties where children can decorate their own cupcakes, cookies or make ice cream sundaes. Makes me wish I was a kid again!

City Cafe is now open on the corner of 125 and Amsterdam. If I recall the location used to house a famous soul food diner. From 125th Street to 110th Street all along Amsterdam has a wide range of restaurants such as Kitchenette along with Max Soha.
All of the businesses and restaurants do quite well along this busy strip filled with Columbia University students and faculty. Kitchenette continues to be one of our favorite breakfast / brunch places here at HarlemCondoLife with incredible breakfast cuisine and delicious baked goods. Expect a 10 to 30 minute wait on weekends for this popular Harlem restaurant.
Swing by City Cafe, say hello and welcome them.

In New York Magazine’s Eat Cheap issue this week, Harlem’s superstar chef Marcus Samuelsson shares his favorite inexpensive bites in the neighborhood. He definitely choses a wide range of cuisines. It reminded me that there are plenty of places to explore when hunger strikes. Did he leave out anyone’s favorites? My friend from North Carolina (who considers himself a rib connoisseur) recommends the babyback ribs from Harlem BBQ on Frederick Douglass and 127th st.
