President Bill Clinton kicks-off #HarlemEatUP festival, which is now well in progress, with a great opening speech.
A little bit of rain came through but it has passed and we are ready to eat some good food and try some great wine in this packed crowd!
Good to see Bill Clinton back in Harlem where he use to have an office on 125th street for many years.
Enjoy the festival!

More and more celebrities continue to flock to Harlem New York. Neil Patrick Harris Harlem days aren’t over—in fact, they’re just about to begin! Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka who recently purchased property in Harlem in 2013, “Officially” move to New York.
The Burtka-Harris family is trading sunny California for Harlem, NY. Neil told Us Weekly last year “Our plan is to reroute ourselves and have our kids start to go to school here. Neil is also starring in Broadway’s Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
I hope that many of the new hot and hoppin restaurants located on Harlem’s Restaurant Row, Vinateria, Harlem Food Bar, The Cecil, Maison Harlem, Cedric Bistro, The 5 and Diamond, Melbas, Jado Sushi, The Park 112, and all the many other great spots throughout New York, will extend child friendly accommodations. Two places in particular that are very kid friendly in Harlem are Bier International on FDB and Harlem Shake NYC on Lenox Avenue.

Many weeks ago rectangular openings filled with dirt but level to the ground appeared dotting the cement sidewalks lining Frederick Douglass Blvd (8th avenue). See our previous post A Million Trees coming to Frederick Douglass Boulevard in South Harlem?
These plots have now been filled with wonderful new trees, the variety of which I am uncertain. This will be nice in the summer months especially for the restaurants which have outdoor seating.
We find this very exciting and something to look forward to this spring.
If you have any information to share drop us a line!

Do you love Melba’s as much as we do? Then you will get to love more of Melba’s soon. The famed restaurant featuring what Melba herself describes as “america’s comfort food” is expanding next door.
The much anticipated expansion has started. The crew has been working feverishly. The expansion will be ready late this/early next year.
We are so excited that more people will be able to enjoy the amazing flavors and experiences that Melba has consistently delivered over these many years. See our previous Melba’s Review.

Early this morning on my way to work (7:30am) I walked by a film crew on Frederick Douglass Boulevard and 114th Street. Right across from Melba’s where something else was just filming a month ago, yet another film crew was setting up getting ready to film something today. Does anybody know what???
UPDATE: (At 4:30pm Thursday.) Thanks for writing in to us with the information of what is being filmed. Apparently they are filming an episode of Person Of Interest a TV series on Thursday nights at 9pm. (CBS)
A couple of our HCL readers said they saw the actor Jim Caviezel filming today also known for many other different roles such as My Private Idaho, Pay It Forward, The Passion of the Christ and Transit just to name a few.
Thank you for sending these photos to us at Harlem Condo Life. We really appreciate it! See more pics below of 113th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard in front of Harlem Food Bar. Looking forward to seeing Harlem as the background on season 2 of Person Of Interest.

When it opened in 2005, Melba’s was one of the first new restaurants to arrive on Harlem’s Frederick Douglass Boulevard. This warm, welcoming, elegant establishment serves “American comfort food”. The menu now includes a few “healthy eating” items as well as traditional southern dishes. Melba’s is a favorite of local residents as well as a destination of choice for celebs, political VIPs, and New Yorkers in-the-know . The owner, Melba Wilson, can often be seen greeting her guests with the grace and style that are her trademarks. NativeNewYorker recently shared an outstanding meal there with other HCL founders HarlemGuy, HarlemHouse and ICare4Harlem. Melba wasn’t there but the place still ran smoothly. From the moment we walked in, her friendly, knowledgeable and efficient staff made us feel at home. We started with appetizers – the catfish strips were yummy, and the drinks were also a hit. I am not a Mojito lover but my colleague assured me that his was first rate. Our entrees were all beautifully presented as well as delicious.
HarlemGuy had the Melba’s signature Southern Fried Chicken and Eggnog Waffles, HarlemHouse really enjoyed the salmon with Melba’s famous mac & cheese and sauteed spinach; ICare4Harlem had the wine braised short ribs of beef and yours truly had the Chilean Sea Bass which was perfectly cooked.
We were almost too full for dessert but couldn’t resist sharing the chocolate mousse cake and the scrumptious homemade green apple sorbet. We lingered long after the last morsel was finished, enjoying the amazing selection of old school music that was playing throughout our meal. Often the music at Melba’s is pumping (sometimes a little too loudly for my taste) but this was a Sunday night and the sounds were perfect for ‘chillin’ with good friends.
If you haven’t been to Melba’s – go. This small, classy establishment is still the Queen of Frederick Douglass Blvd.
Melba’s is located at 300 West 114th Street on Frederick Douglass Blvd. It is open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday and for brunch on Saturday & Sunday. Call (212) 864-7777 or email email@example.com for information or reservations. Melba’s also does catering; for information email firstname.lastname@example.org.

Good friend to HarlemCondoLife Melba of Melba’s Restaurant on Frederick Douglass Blvd., will be appearing on Food Network’s premiere episode of “Fat Chef” on Thursday, January 26 at 10pm. She will also be a guest on The View Thursday, January 26 at 11am.
Congratulations to Melba on all her new recent success. It could not have happened to a nicer person.
Don’t forget to check out Melba’s Restaurant located at the corner of 114 st. on Frederick Douglass Blvd. We just had dinner there last week and are in the process of writing a new review for 2012 of Melba’s.
