FUEL-READY-TO-GO

Since we first posted about this new pizza joint coming to Harlem back in early December 2013 before the name was even confirmed, we have been promising opening dates. Well it is official Custom FUEL Pizza will open their doors Wednesday, February 26th see our previous review(s) below and on Harlem Restaurant Row.

Let’s hope the pizza is good and the service is friendly and efficient. Looking forward to stopping in this week to check it out for ourselves and you can be sure that we will blog about our experience.

With 1 Forno, Bad Horse pizza, and further East Patsy’s in Harlem, we have great pizza options in west, central and east Harlem.  Who needs to go below 110th Street anymore for pizza!

FUEL READY TO GO

Walking on Frederick Douglass Boulevard and 123rd yesterday, we noticed that the butcher paper is off the windows of Fuel and it seems almost ready to go.  We can’t wait to try it!

In a followup to our earlier post, the exciting new pizza place replacing the convenient but sometimes mediocre Pizzeria 123 is called Fuel (custom pizza•salads) and according to their website, the vintage gasoline station-themed cafe seems to be the first New York outpost of a North Carolina (and Washington DC) chain, although according to their website the originators are from New York:

The online menu seems to have quite a few pizza, sandwich, salad and wing choices. Hopefully this will be another solid and inexpensive dining choice in the neighborhood. Welcome to the neighborhood Custom Fuel Pizza.

Looks like Harlem will be getting a new pizzeria in the same location on Harlem Restaurant Row where “Pizzeria 123” was.  Our source tells Harlem Condo Life that construction is underway and word on the street is that it will be called “Fuel”.  Sounds good.

Now with 1 Forno (great pizza and priced well on 116th Street), Bad Horse Pizza (on the pricier side but delicious) and this new place, we will have a lot of options.  As far as I’m concerned you can never have too many Pizza spots!!

Stay tuned… for more information on Custom Fuel Pizza in Harlem.

A friend to Harlem Condo Life informed us that Bad Horse Pizza had a fire the other night.  There were 4 fire trucks and a window had to be broken to put out the fire.  Other than that there was minimal damage done, thankfully.  It was a small fire and they were open for business the following day.

We’re glad that it didn’t turn into anything more major and that their business was not affected.

What do you think about a pizza place opening on Lenox Avenue? Several readers have whispered in our ear saying that the southeast corner of Lenox Ave and 119th Street in Harlem is being prepped as a pizza joint. To be more specific, we hear that the owner of Settepani is looking to take over this space, pictured below, to turn it into a stylish pizza joint. Yummy! I hope this is true because if the pizza is anything like the food they serve at Settepani, located at 196 Lenox Avenue, I am so there! I have dined at Settepani and they cook up some scrumptious food. If they are really planning on making pizza in Harlem, I am confident Settepani will do it up right by making delicious pies!

I also think a pizza place is perfect for this space, which is exactly one block south of Settepani. It would be a nice alternative to Native’s and Il Caffe Latte, which I love dining at those places too. So I will ask again, what do you think about Settepani setting up a pizza place at this location?

It’s all about the sauce!  This Pizzeria has been around forever.  Since 1945 to be exact.  Though it has been strongly supported by Columbia University residents throughout the years, it reaches a much broader audience of locals and customers who have been coming back for years.  Like many Italian Pizzeria menus it has something for everyone; all the classic dishes.  I’ve been eating there (and ordering in from there) consistently for the past four years and haven’t had a bad experience yet.  The pizza is perfect mainly because of the sauce.  Noticeably more rich in flavor then any competition in the area.

But what won me over with this Pizza joint, was their delicious Entrees.  Just to name a few, the Shrimp Scampi is perfecto with what seems like an endless supply of garlic.  Their classic Chicken or Veal Parmigiana with your choice of pasta, salad or potatoes on the side and also comes with piping hot bread that is always baked to perfection.  Other courses to consider are the Lasagna Parmigiana, Chicken Cacciatore or Scarpariello, and the Veal Scaloppine Marsala or Francaise.  Also they offer one of the best Fried Calamari appetizers that is crispy with lots of lemons and dipping sauce consistently cooked to perfection each time.  This is your better than average Calamari.

We are truly blessed to have such an authentic Italian restaurant in the Lower Harlem area.  I was reading many various reviews of this place (as I said it’s been around since 1945) and the critics mostly rave, with a few who are not as impressed.  My advice to you is to go and try it for yourself.  V & T has been in the same family for 64 years and that is something to be respected and celebrated.  If you are not already one of their satisfied customers, stop by V & T today for great fulfilling tasty authentic Italian entrees & pizza.

This great little affordable pizza & burger joint has been in business for 6 years and is a neighborhood favorite.  For a perfect cheese slice and delicious House Salad topped with Balsamic Vinegar (Salad “123”) for only $4.95 you can’t go wrong.  Their burgers are great and you can substitute the regular fries that come with the Deluxe order, to their Curly Spice Fries that are sinfully good.  Love the staff and the casual environment.  I’ve never had a bad meal here, I have to give props to how well managed this establishment is.

Note: They have 6 lunch specials daily ranging from $2.75 to $7.50.
