Harlem's Baptist Temple Church condemned?

By Austin2Harlem
I was on my way to Spanish Harlem the other day to pick up my truck that’s being worked on and I noticed this place of worship being operated on. I wondered what happened. I went online and read that this lovely church on 116th between Lenox and Fifth Avenue is actually meeting the man upstairs…in the sky! Safe journey.

I was disturbed by this recent cover of New York Magazine.  It initially invoked anger, sadness, frustration and disbelief to name a few.

However it is important to look beyond the hate and the fear.  To focus on the momentousness of this time in history.  To focus on the future.

Those of us who live or work or play in Harlem are helping to create that future.  One that is rooted in a storied past.  One in which new stories of positive change are happening every second of every day and in part chronicled by our blog.

It’s been said that a tree grows in Brooklyn.

Let it be said that Hope is Harlem (TM).

Where to hang in Harlem, NY Times style

As a Harlemite, I get tickled pink when I see The New York Times feature our neighborhood…again. They featured some excellent places to hang out in this weekend’s edition, however let’s not forget there is a ton more in our fabulous neighborhood of Harlem to visit than the Times mentions.  They could have referenced Nectar or 67 Orange or even the Apollo Theater as places to visit. Then again there is only so much copy space in a print and online publication. That’s why blog sites such as HarlemCondoLife, HarlemOneStop, Harlem+Bespoke and UptownFlavor are here as another option to learn more about Harlem! If your wondering where to go in Harlem, any of these blog sites can assist!

Tarp down at Frederick Douglass Circle

By HarlemGal
From this photo it looks like our circle at the intersection of 110th Street and Frederick Douglass Blvd is ready with the exception of the sculpture! All I can say is “it’s about time” and as a Harlemite I am ready to visit the circle!

Current Issue

I was reading the latest issue of the New York Magazine and stumbled upon the fact that Neil Patrick Harris reportedly lives in Harlem.

It’s fantastic to  live in a community that continues to be at the nexus of so much of what life has to offer and in every sense of the word.

As previously noted in our previous blog posts a number of other notable personalities are “in the hood”.

HarlemCondoLife welcomes one and all.

Who have you seen lately in Harlem – let us know the scoop!

In memory…

By HarlemGal
I can’t believe it’s been eight years since that day. Wow. Has anything changed since then? For me, it would take countless hours to answer that question. What do you think? For now, I just want to post these pictures and think of those that were lost…..
