In celebration of its 20th anniversary, Island Burger & Shakes is excited to announce the official opening of its third, and largest restaurant location in Morningside Heights at 3147 Broadway, between La Salle and Tieman Place (123/124). Located just steps away from Columbia University, the restaurant will serve an extensive menu of flame-grilled burgers, chicken sandwiches, entrée salads, and shakes.
“We are excited to open our doors and bring our casual grill experience to our new neighbors in Morningside Heights,” states owner Mark Calvino. “It’s our hope that the restaurant becomes the neighborhood destination for a delicious and affordable dining experience for the entire family.”
The 62 seat, full-service restaurant and bar nearly triples the size of the other two locations. Co-designed by founder Mark Calvino and partner, Sam Wong, the new location truly showcases the evolution of the brand, fusing rustic and industrial décor with 90s-era design throwbacks, wood-flanked walls and red leather banquets. The statement piece of the restaurant is the upside-down milk shake glass chandelier that hangs in the front window. A welcoming, 9-seat bar serves a portfolio of fine wines as well as artisanal and local bottled beers and brews.
Island Burgers & Shakes takes the concept of burgers and chicken sandwiches to a whole new level with over 64 variations. Diners may opt for a classic, build-your-own hamburger (starting at $9.95) or choose a specialty creation such as the staff’s favorite Here’s Gianni burger with roasted red peppers, bacon, and homemade parmesan spread on ciabatta; the decadent Hippo burger with curried sour cream, bacon, cheddar, homemade guacamole, sautéed onions, and scallions served in a whole wheat pita; the super-hot Napalm burger that’s blackened and served with BBQ sauce, jalapenos, cheddar, and habanero, and more.
Island Burgers & Shakes takes pride in the restaurant’s 20 years of business success along with its consistent use of high-quality ingredients, attentive and friendly service, affordable pricing, and casual, laidback atmosphere. The restaurant proudly serves grass-fed, antibiotic-free, Pat LaFrieda meat blend, sources its bread from local bakeries like Sullivan Street Bakery and Eli Zabar Breads, and makes most sauces and spreads in house.
For diners looking for lighter menu options, Island Burgers & Shakes serves up fresh and innovative entrée salads that can be topped with a protein of choice: hamburger, turkey burger, or grilled chicken. Some of the locals’ favorites include the Quinoa Salad with black olives, tomatoes, cucumbers, onion, fresh lemon and mint dressing; Boo Zoo Salad with mixed greens, bacon, cheddar, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, and jalapeno; or the classic Baby Kale Salad with pumpkin seeds, tomatoes, and pecorino vinaigrette dressing.
Island Burgers’ famous milk shakes complement the savory menu. Diners can choose milk or malted fountain shakes with vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, or black and white ice cream. Ice cream floats are also available.
