Rachel Brown is a self-taught artist, born and raised in New York City with Ethiopian and Bermudian heritage. She plays with a band of African and Caribbean musicians, making for a worldly sound that fuses hip-hop, pop, and island. The recent Harvard graduate is a regular performer on the NYC nightlife scene where her audiences have included Leonardo DiCaprio, Jay-Z, Beyonce, John Stamos, Robert DeNiro and Martin Scorsese, and she has opened for numerous acts, including Mary J. Blige, Robin Thicke and John Legend. Upon releasing her EP, Building Castles, Brown has caught the attention of many, including Wyclef Jean, Jaden Smith, Perez Hilton and Glamour.

There are a lot of celebrations happening this weekend in Harlem for Gay Pride. After a momentous and triumphant week for the LGBT community, people are really ready to celebrate gay pride.
A few places in Harlem where you can celebrate are at Aloft Harlem Hotel on FDB Friday, June 28th 7 pm – 11 pm. Red Rooster (Ginny’s Supper Club) on Lenox Ave, Sunday June 30th starting at 8 pm. MIST (My Image Studios) on 116th Street Friday, June 28th 8 pm & Saturday, June 29th 9 pm. Jackie Robinson Park “Harlem Pride 2013 Celebration Day” from 12 pm – 6 pm featuring DJ Andre Collins and a long list of Live Performances. Many other businesses are participating such as Harlem Food Bar, Jado Sushi, 5 and Diamond, Lido and Melba’s who have always been supportive in past years.

It’s great weather to be out and about in Harlem. If you would like to end your day with some live music check out Ginny’s Supper Club. Tomorrow night, Thursday 4/18, you can catch An Evening with Boncellia Lewis in a Tribute to Dinah Washington either at 7:30 pm or 10 pm.
On Saturday, 4/20 Arturo O’Farrill Trio will perform at 8 pm and again at 10:30 pm for the late night crowd.
On Sunday 4/21 you can enjoy Ginny’s inspirational Gospel Brunch at 11:00 am. If you haven’t checked this out yet it is a must see, this Sunday and every Sunday (Nice option for the after church crowd but remember to make a reservation.)
