Over the last three years a number of bank branches have opened up on the gateway to Harlem, 8th avenue between 110 and 118. First there was WAMU on 116. Followed by the large Chase complex on 118th. Most recently the HSBC Branch on 112th. Notably absent is the big red bank, Bank of America. Sources tell us that a person who works for the Bank pitched the idea of branch on this corridor but there was no interest. That’s unfortunate for the Bank and it’s current and potential future customers. The corridor is a hotbed of new construction (three new condos going up now) and retail activity (existing and new restaurants, including Starbucks in the last 12 months and soon a Duncan and a Subway. Perhaps the Bank should rethink while commercial space remains available. Would love to know your thoughts.
