Calling all Playwrights, Directors & Actors: “Write the Election” – NEW DATE

Writing the Election 2012” is a novel, non-partisan event being planned by the Harlem theater community to encourage all of us to register and vote.  Writers are invited to submit ten-minute plays, short scenes or monologues about the upcoming presidential election.  Subject matter can include any aspect of the political process: the issues, civic life, government, leadership, public service, voting, etc.  Diversity of opinions from all points on the political spectrum are welcome.

Accepted works will be read at a free, public event hosted by Dr. Barbara Ann Teer’s National Black Theatre (2031-33 Fifth Avenue, between 125th and 126th Streets) on Monday, October 29th from 7:30-10:30pm ( originally scheduled for September 28th).

“Writing the Election 2012” is sponsored by Classical Theatre of Harlem and New Black Fest and is being produced by Twinbiz, Harlem playwright Yvette Heyliger’s production company.  Scripts must be submitted no later than September 21st at 11:59pm.  For more information or to submit your play or your directing resume, please contact Yvette Heyliger at Writing the Election 2012.   Plays should be no longer than ten pages, in 12 point Times New Roman font, and in standard playwriting format. Monologues should be one page only and in 12 point Times New Roman font.  Actors with cold-reading skills should email/bring pictures and resume for on-site casting beginning at 6:00pm. There is no submission fee for playwrights. There is no compensation for the actors or directors.

Join Yvette and other members of the Harlem theater community for “Writing the Election 2012” on October 29th when the plays, moderated by a guest political pundit, will be read “to celebrate the joy of democracy and to inspire citizens to get out and vote on Election Day”.
