AARP New York’s “Lasting Legacy: The Journey of YOU” is now open and features 20 works by 19 renowned and emerging artists.
“People now feel that new possibilities are ageless and we want to help New Yorkers build on their life experiences and fulfill their goals and dreams at any age,” -Dionne Polite, of AARP.she said.
Betty Blayton, 75, who co-founded The Studio Museum and The Children’s Art Carnival of Harlem, has exhibited nationally and internationally. Her colorful collage, “Sekmet, The Powerful,” (pictured here) depicts the ancient Egyptian warrior goddess.
Other artists include the graffiti legend Nic 707, 53 (“He’s Got Attitude”, ”Ascension Transmutation”) and — feature his iconic bubble letter tag and kilroy-like figure. He gained notoriety in the mid-1970s for tagging trains and creating the crew OTB (Out to Bomb).
“Lasting Legacy: The Journey of YOU” will be on view at the LeRoy Neiman Center, 2785 Frederick Douglass Blvd., through April 10. An opening reception will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
