Be an informed Harlem Voter

By Mike Linthicum

Yes. It’s election season! This year New York City will have four different voting events. At HarlemCondoLife we remain politically neutral and we are not endorsing any particular candidates. We believe that voting is important so we want to make sure that our readers are aware of what’s going on, and where to find additional information. We are planning to have more information about specific candidates for the US Senate & Congressional Primary for the districts that affect Harlem, as well as the candidates for the NY State Primary. This information will be in subsequent related posts.

The table below shows the four different voting events (3 primaries and 1 general election) as well as information about the purpose of each election.

Date Election Purpose & Other Information
Tue, Apr 19, 2016 Presidential Primary Each party selects its nominee for the General Election.
Tue, Jun 28, 2016 State Primary Each party narrows down the candidate pool for its US Senate and Congressional Districts for the General Election.
Tue, Sep 13, 2016 State Office Primary Voters narrow down the candidates for New York State Senate and Assembly for the General Election.
Tue, Nov 8, 2016 General Election The Standard National General Election.

In New York, the Presidential Primary (April 19th) and the Senate and Congressional Primary (June 28th) are both CLOSED primaries. This means that registered Republicans choose only Republican candidates, and Democrats choose only Democrats. The NY State Primary (September 13th) and the National General Election (November 8th) are not restricted to party. You may vote for any candidate.
