CCCADI Grand Opening Kicks Off this Weekend

Our Grand Opening Weekend kicks off tomorrow October 15th to Sunday, October 16th! The weekend is action packed with FREE activities for everyone. Activities such as our inaugural 3-part exhibition titled Home, Memory, and Future,” Calle Bembé neighborhood party, food vendors, children’s art activities, and Open House New York panels in collaboration with Apollo Theater and Positive Workforce.

HOME, MEMORY, FUTURE EXHIBITION

October 2016 – March 2017 

The 3-part exhibition explores HOME in the age of gentrification, dislocation, migration, exile, belonging, health and unaffordable housing. The exhibition will feature work from 20 artists of various mediums, including augmented reality. Renowned curator, Lowery Stokes Sims joins Yasmin Ramirez, Marta Moreno Vega and Regina Bultrón Bengoa in curating HOME, MEMORY, AND FUTURE.

Uniting Community – Cultural Spaces | 2 Panels  

From East to West, the heartbeat of Harlem–125th Street–once bustled with theaters, clubs and other music venues that embraced African American and Latino artists and audiences. As part of the Open House New York Weekend, the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute and the Apollo Theater explore West Harlem’s rich musical and cultural history.

Experts Richard BlondetHenry MedinaRalph Mendez, and John T. Reddick take us on an audio and video tour exploring how African aesthetic transformed West and East Harlem into a vibrant cultural and musical epicenter, one that continues to vibrate in the nation today.
