West Coast Swing Outdoors at West Harlem Piers this Saturday

West Harlem PiersFor the last time this summer, you can go west coast swing dancing in Harlem.  West coast swing is one of my favorite dances – sort of a cross between Lindy-style swing and salsa.  It is danced to all kinds of music – R & B, pop, blues, rock, even hip-hop and country.

The event is run by Paula Wilson – an amazing dancer, in partnership with Paula WIlsonRiverside Park as part of their Summer on the Hudson programming.  I saw Paula & her partner Ken Kreshtool perform at a party a couple of weeks ago at Stepping Out Studios.  What a treat!  I was lucky enough to get a dance with Ken, who is a terrific leader with a lot of musicality and some very smooth moves.  The dancing goes from 6 pm – 9 pm this Saturday, September 28th at West Harlem Piers Park (West 125th St. and the Hudson River).  Paula will teach a lesson at about 7 pm and the entire event is free.  If you know West Coast, come and show your stuff; if you’ve never done the dance, come out and give it a try!
