Harlem Fashion Week Celebrates Success with Symposium

Displaying To help facilitate the growth of the fashion industry in Harlem, on March 25th 2017 Harlem Fashion Week will be hosting a business of fashion symposium entitled “The Network”: Where Fashion and Industry Converge to create Empire. This event is for: designers, bloggers, photographers, models stylists, MUA everyone in the fashion industry. According to Tandra, “the goal of The Network is educate fashion industry professionals with the skills necessary to build a brand. Shows are great but we also need to develop a healthy network to support one another, especially in communities of color.”  This impressive event is a follow-up to this year’s outstanding Harlem Fashion Week success.

The founders of Harlem Fashion Week are the Powerhouse mother-daughter team of Tandra Birkett and Yvonne Jewnell, owners of the award winning fashion design company Yvonne Jewnell New York LLC. Yvonne was educated at Parson The New School and Tandra was educated at Columbia University and combined they used their talent, skill an education to create one of the most innovative, emerging fashion houses.  According to Tandra & Yvonne, “the vision of Harlem Fashion Week is to create an explosion of culture that will bridge the Downtown fashion hub to the Uptown vibe for a rich cultural experience”. Tandra shares, “Harlem has always been a trailblazer in the fashion industry; we wanted to create a fashion week to establish that representation within the larger NYFW community.”
