Meet NIEHS Director at WE ACT Community Dialogue

By NativeNewYorker

WE ACT will be welcoming Dr. Linda Birnbaum, Director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, to an environmental health Community Dialogue on Tuesday, April 13th at the Harlem School of the Arts from 6-8 pm. Dr. Birnbaum, who will be speaking between 6:00 pm and 6:30 pm, will share the priorities of President Obama’s administration for improving environmental health and she will hear from community residents about their major concerns.

The evening Community Dialogue will be preceded by a Scientific Session from 2-4 pm, also at HSA, which will present information about recent research results in Northern Manhattan and the South Bronx that affect health and exposure at home to indoor air toxins.  Come out and learn how to reduce exposures to home air pollutants, household products, personal care products, pests, cell phones, bedbugs, mold, lead and much, much more.

Peggy Shepard, Executive Director of WE ACT

WE ACT for Environmental Justice (West Harlem Environmental Action, Inc.) is a non-profit, community-based, environmental justice organization that was founded by three Harlem residents in 1988.  For more than twenty years, WE ACT has been a vigorous advocate for the Northern Manhattan environment and improved quality of life for its residents through community organizing, education and training, advocacy and research, and public policy development. Under the leadership of Executive Director and Co-founder Peggy Shepard, WE ACT has emerged as a respected leader in the national environmental justice movement.  WE ACT was part of the working group that produced Environmental Justice and the Green Economy: A Vision Statement and Case Studies for Just and Sustainable Solutions, a newly released report that describes a shared vision for a just and sustainable economy.
