Great Performances Opens a New Café in Harlem

The Atrium Cafe

By Icare4Harlem

The Atrium Café is open for business at the Studio Museum in Harlem.  I recently had the pleasure of attending the public opening of the cafe.  This latest addition joins the Museum Store, established collections, and public programs offered through the Studio Museum.  The cafe resides right next door which makes it not only convenient but provides a light meal before or after a tour of the museum.  The Atrium Cafe is a culinary partnership between Great Performances and the Studio Museum.

Great Performances is a catering company that organizes high profile events but also provides services for weddings or special occasions.  The company prides itself in being the only catering company at a national level that owns and operates its own organic farm, Katchkie Farm in Columbia County, New York.  Having access to fresh foods translates into exciting and healthy meals at the Atrium Café.  Chef de Cuisine, Marc Spooner has created tasty and affordable selections such as a Green Chili Chicken Wrap, an Italian Mortadella with Pistachio Aioli Sandwich, Grilled Vegetables and Portobello Salad, and other delightful choices.

I selected the Seared Salmon Sandwich. A hearty black bread baquette served as a bed for the pickled fennel and radishes layered on top of the seared salmon.  As an accompaniment to my lunch, I chose a Thunder Pickle, one of the many items produced and sold by the Katchie Farm General Store.

To satisfy a little bit of sweetness that I always seem to crave at the end of a meal, I came across Great Performances’ interpretation of a Fig Newton.  The snack was packed full of figs wrapped in a light crust and a simple glaze, sprinkled with crushed pistachio nuts completed the bar.

During the summer, the café is opened only on weekends and for special events.  Stop by and make it a day visiting all of the wonderful venues.

  1. … on the other hand, the fabulous Globetrippin’ on Amsterdam (near W. 144th) may close at the end of the week due to slow business. Any chance you can post about that? I know it’s above 125th Street and not even on Frederick Douglass, but still…
