I usually regard 110th Street as the southern boundary of Harlem but I am willing to stretch my definition to post about a terrific event in Central Park this Saturday presented by Jazzmobile and the Central Park Conservancy.  As the CPC website says: “Bring your dancing shoes and a picnic blanket, and enjoy a wonderful afternoon of art and international jazz music in Central Park at the annual Great Jazz on the Great Hill event”.   The afternoon begins at 1pm with a 1-hour workshop led by artist Emmett Wigglesworth in

which participants can contribute to a jazz-inspired abstract mural that will be displayed during the concert.

The music starts at 2pm with a line-up that includes Jimmy Heath, Ray Mantilla, Dion Parson and the 21st Century Band, and Brianna Thomas, winner of the 2009 Jazzmobile Vocal Competition.  The workshop and concert are free.  Spoonbread Too Restaurant and Greenmarket farmers will be providing food (which is not free).  Check it out!

  1. The Central Park website indicates that the even has been cancelled, ‘…due to inclement weather’.

I hope you’ll post it when its rescheduling. Thanks so much for the heads-up. A summer’s afternoon of good music & good food in Harlem-it doesn’t get any better.

  2. Thanks for the tip. This is one I’ll check out for sure!

Love the website and appreciate all the time and effort from the bloggers. Thanks so much.
