“Hacia Afuera: Taking Back Our Streets Through the Arts” is a weekend-long festival celebrating art, music and food. It is happening this Saturday & Sunday (August 28-29), rain or shine, in Spanish Harlem’s streets, gardens, playgrounds and community spaces. The event is a partnership of local community organizations and institutions led by ART FOR CHANGE, a not-for profit group that is committed to keeping arts alive in El Barrio and that seeks to engage artists as a voice for social justice.
Now in its third year, Hacia Afuera, which means “to go outside”, will showcase an outdoor exhibition of local & national artists and live musical performances, as well as storytelling by Bobby Gonzalez and live theater by Coatlicue Theater Company. Workshops for kids will include painting, sculpture, scrapbooking and knitting, and there will be a Flamenco workshop for all ages. All events are free!
