When I first moved to Harlem the closest thing to Fairway, Citarellas, Best Yet, Costcos etc was my favorite super market called Finefare on 116th and Malcom X Boulevard (aka Lenox Avenue or Sixth Avenue) right by the two train. I still visit it from time to time.
So I was pleased the other day as I walked by 112th and Malcom X Boulevard to see that Finefare has taken over the supermarket that used to be there (I don’t recall what it was).
So if you live in the area Finefare deserves a chance. They carry a great selection of fresh fruits and vegetables and healthy frozen fare. The prices are great and the employees are nice.
So make sure to stop by and pay them a visit today.
There’s also the new Pioneer on 129th and Lenox….pretty nice!
slb – what would your dream store be?
Afroqueen – Thank you for being a reader and for bringing this to our attention.
Thanks for the correction (I meant 6th Avenue)
Have you ever been to the Fine Fare on 8th Ave at 132nd st? It is horrible. Not only is the fresh produce and diary overpriced (and sometimes in bad condition), this location always feels cramped and dirty and filled with rude staff! One of the last times I was there, a fire occurred in the back, and the store filled with smoke–but they did not bother to notify the customers. I’d rather take the hike to Fairway any day.
Lenox /Malcom X is NOT 7th avenue, but 6th.
But other than that, I do like Fine Fare.
Can we get something decent on the west side besides overpriced and overcrowded Fairway or that abomination of a grocery store C Town?
I don’t think of it that way either 🙂 It’s just one more great choice available in Harlem. Thanks for joining the conversation.
Funny, I never thought of Fine Fare as the “poor man’s” FairWay, but I guess it is. Thanks for the new location update!
