Isola Restaurant in Manhattan Valley

Isola

I recently dined at Isola Restaurant located at 994 Columbus Avenue (108/109th streets) and it was great! Sicilian born Sebastiano Cappitta relocated it from the Upper West Side and the restaurant is large and has outdoor seating.

Isola has a wood-fire brick oven where they cook fabulous home-made pastas and pizza. We had a margherita thin-crust pizza to begin with along with the tomatoes and fresh mozzarella appetizer and the fried calamari which the waitress recommended. Normally, I am not a fried calamari fan but it was fresh and delicious.  For dinner I had the Parpadelle Ai Funghi Porcini and Truffle pasta (which is now my favorite dish there) and the rest of my party had the Fettuccine alla Bolognese, the Ravioli with spinach and ricotta, the Lasagna al forno and the chicken dish. All were home made pastas and were yummy! We topped it off with 2 delicious desserts. One was a chocolate molten dessert and the other a  crepe with bananas and nutella.

They have a full bar and a great wine selection.  The service was excellent, the prices reasonable, and the manager was visible and stopped by our table.  I heard they have a great brunch I look forward to stopping by for it.
