(NEW) Savann Mediterranean Restaurant in Harlem (Review)

SAVANN OUTSIDE

We were asked recently to write a blog post about Savann and now after having dinner there two different times we thought we’d share our experience.  The first time we went it wasn’t very crowded as they had just opened and were still waiting on their liquor license and getting the word out.  The second visit the restaurant was busy and they were happy to let us know they have their liquor license.  It is great that they now have a full bar.  On a weekend night after a full work week the fist thing most customers want to order when they sit down is a cocktail.  I think this will really entice people to visit Savann and experience their cuisine.  The food was very good.  It was definitely different than anything else that we have here on Restaurant Row in Harlem.  We found the price point to be a bit steep, but depending on what you order you can regulate your expenses. They already have a 4 and a half star rating on Yelp.  Pretty impressive for a just newly opened restaurant.

Fried Cheese Rolls

Stand outs here for us were the wilted Baby Spinach Salad with goat cheese (see menu) and the Shepherd Salad which is a classic Turkish salad which you find in most Mediterranean restaurants.  I couldn’t help comparing many of the dishes to Turkuaz Restaurant on Broadway and 100th Street.  However, they are totally different from each other but not in a bad way just each individually unique.  From the bread to their wide variety in entrees.  Definitely a nice addition to Harlem.

S. Lamb Sirloin S. Pan Seared Salmon S. pork loin

We have tried the Crispy Grilled Half A Duck, Stuffed Pork Loin, Oven-Roasted Boneless Chicken, Grilled Skirt Steak and the Pan Seared Salmon.  They are also vegetarian friendly with a Vegetable Strudel and Penne with Vegetables along with several vegetarian appetizers incuding Baked Portobello Mushroom and Mint Zucchini Pancakes and Beets and Spinach salads.  Of the entrees we enjoyed the Skirt Steak, Salmon and Stuffed Pork the most.  The Stuffed Pork is incredible stuffed with sun-dried tomato, sage. pine nuts; sweet potato puree, sauteed endive, prune-apricot sauce.  The combination of flavors are mouth watering and this dish is moderately priced at $18.  The Chicken was good with skin nicely crisped and seasoned, however it says boneless on the menu and mine wasn’t boneless, priced at $16.   The Grilled Skirt Steak comes sliced with tasty sides though not a huge portion it’s seasoned very well and priced at $19.  The Grilled Half A Duck is good, a healthy sized portion at $24.  They also have a Grilled Lamb Sirloin at $24.

S. Turkish Coffee Creme Brulee

For deserts they have a wide variety to select from.  The Chocolate Cake with ice cream, Baklava and Turkish Coffee Creme Brulee are the stand out choices in our opinion.  The Turkish Creme Brulee was very unique and flavorful.  A perfect ending to a gourmet Mediterranean dinner.

S. Baklava

Savann has a Delivery Menu and are doing very well with their home deliveries.  You can have a quality gourmet dinner delivered right to your home.  They are now serving Brunch on the weekends 11 am – 5 pm.   They are open 7 days a week Monday – Sunday for dinner 5 pm – 11 pm.  In the near future they plan on opening for lunch.

Welcome to the neighborhood Savann!
